Ahead of the May 29th release date for First Lady Michelle Obama's new book American Grown, Crown Publishing has released a 44-second promo video featuring Mrs. Obama discussing her first outing as an author. The book includes personal stories about Mrs. Obama's experience with her 1,500 square-foot White House Kitchen Garden on the South Lawn, as well as stories about other US gardens, gardening tips, and recipes. Onscreen, the First Lady introduces herself simply as "Michelle Obama," omitting her formal title.

"In this book, I share my experiences starting a garden at the White House, and I offer tips on how to start your own garden, whether in a few pots on your windowsill, or out in your backyard," Mrs. Obama says.

"You'll also hear the stories of people in every corner of our country, who are using gardens to feed their families and communities, to educate our children and to build a healthier future for the next generation. I hope that you'll be as inspired by these stories as I was."

There's now an official Facebook page for the book, as well as a few faux digital projects. It was first announced in March of 2011. Publication has been delayed twice. Last Thursday, the website for Mrs. Obama's childhood obesity campaign, LetsMove.gov, unveiled a comprehensive new Gardening Guide for families, schools and communities. The 256-page hardcover edition of American Grown will sell for $30 in the US market, and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com at the bargain price of $19.20. Kindle and audio editions are available, too. The hardcover will be $30 in the US market, and is available for pre-order on Amazon.com for $19.40. (Above: The book jacket)

Crown's current description of the book:

"American Grown will be inspirational and instructive and will provide ideas for readers to get involved and join the movement to create community gardens, support local farmers markets, create school gardens, and start urban gardens, as well as other ways that they can make small changes to achieve big results and create healthy eating habits.

American Grown will address the epidemic of childhood obesity by empowering parents and caregivers with information, improving food quality in schools, increasing access to healthy, affordable food, and encouraging increased physical activity. It will also include practical ideas, recipes, and resources as well as tips on how to begin a garden of any size, anywhere and how to support local farmers' markets.

Filled with gorgeous full-color photography, American Grown will include stunning photos of the White House garden and Mrs. Obama throughout the seasons, as well as other community and school gardens from around the country."
