First Lady Michelle Obama
and Dr. Jill Biden will welcome military mothers, grandmothers, and children to a tea party at the White House next Thursday, May 10, for an early Mother's Day celebration. The event also marks the upcoming Military Spouse's Appreciation Day, the East Wing said.  (Above: The President with Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden at last year's launch event for Joining Forces)

Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden will also host a separate Joining Forces service event at the Naval Observatory later in the afternoon on the same day.

At 1:45 PM, Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden will help the kids create Mother’s Day cards and other gifts during a craft session in the State Dining Room.  They will then move to the East Room so the children can present their mothers and grandmothers with their artwork during the tea. The First Lady and Dr. Biden will each deliver remarks, the East Wing said.

At 3:00 PM at the Naval Observatory, the Vice President's residence, Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden will welcome Congressional spouses to assemble Mother’s Day gift packages for mothers and wives of deployed troops.  The service event coincides with the annual Congressional Spouses Luncheon, where Mrs. Obama will be the guest of honor.

"Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden are working with the USO and Full Circle Home, an organization started by Vickie Durfee when her son was deployed to Iraq and asked her to help him send a gift to his girlfriend at Christmas," the East Wing said.

Full Circle Home and has since sent Mother’s Day and Christmas packages to more than 4,000 women on behalf of their deployed loved ones, the East Wing noted.
